  • Cuba

Approx. Date of Birth: September 2023. Cuba’s story began in San José Plaza, where he was found very skinny and in need of care. Since his rescue, this young pup has blossomed into a lively, playful companion who loves to be on the move. His energy and spirit shine through in everything he does — whether it’s chasing after toys or enjoying time with his canine friends. Cuba does especially well with dogs his own size, happily joining in their games and sharing space with ease. He’s currently living in an outdoor shelter, where he’s learning the rhythms of daily life and waiting patiently for a family to call his own. With his resilience, joyful personality, and love for play, Cuba is ready to bring happiness and companionship to the right home.

  • El Tigre aka Peter

He had an owner and there were other dogs. Very close to the ranch. He was rescued by one of our volunteers and was in very poor shape and bad injuries in his back. Distemper survivor. He is a sweet, quiet guy.

  • Harry

Meet Harry, one of our newest arrivals at the rescue ranch. He came alongside Sally, and together they simply decided to stay—choosing safety, comfort, and community over the uncertainty of the world outside. Harry is still brand new to us, so we’re just beginning to discover who he is. What we know already is that he’s curious, steady, and adjusting to ranch life with quiet resilience. Every day he shows us little glimpses of the companion he’s meant to be, and we can’t wait to see his personality blossom. Harry’s story is just beginning, and he will be looking for a family who will give him patience, kindness, and the chance to experience all the joys of a forever home once he has completed all his protocols.

  • Jamaica

Approx. Date of Birth: September 2023. Rescued by an independent rescuer, Yesenia, near San José Plaza, this young pup came to safety very skinny and in need of care. Despite her rough start, she has shown nothing but joy and gratitude — a truly happy dog with a playful spirit. She loves being active and does wonderfully with other dogs her own size, joining in their games and companionship with ease. Currently, she is living in an outdoor shelter, so she will need gentle guidance with house training as she transitions into a loving home. With her bright personality and resilient heart, she’s ready to bring warmth, fun, and unconditional love to the family who welcomes her.

  • Jerry

Meet Jerry, one of our newest rescues. He’s just arrived, and while we’re still getting to know him, we can already see he’s a gentle soul with a story waiting to unfold. Jerry is at the very beginning of his journey with us, and we’re excited to discover his personality as he settles in. What we do know is that he’s safe now, and his future is full of promise.

  • Juanita

Juanita’s journey to safety began on January 12, 2026, when Sandra found her by the roadside in San Juan. She had been struck by a car and was unable to walk, her body marked with blue ink and her spirit weighed down by pain. Her rescuer couldn’t leave her there—Juanita needed help, and she needed it urgently. Though her injuries are serious, Juanita’s resilience shines through. Even in her fragile state, there’s a quiet strength in her eyes, as if she knows she’s been given a second chance. She is disabled and recovering, but she is safe now, surrounded by care and compassion. Juanita’s story is still unfolding, and we’re just beginning to learn who she is beyond her hardship. What we do know is that she’s a fighter, and with patience, love, she has the chance to discover joy and belonging. Her past was marked by struggle, but Juanita’s future is filled with hope. She’s ready to heal and eventually find the home where she will finally be cherished.

  • Keila aka Vecina

Approx. Date of Birth: December 2023. This cheerful young pup was born into a home where she was never truly cared for. Thankfully, Chely and Osiris — two of our dedicated team members — stepped in and offered to take her to a spay and neuter clinic with Peace Animals. After her surgery, she came to Mezcales shelter to recover… and she’s been with us ever since. We don’t know much about her past, but what we do know is this: she’s a happy, playful girl who gets along well with other dogs her size. She can be a little territorial at times, but with patience and guidance, she’s learning to share space and affection. She currently lives in an outdoor shelter, so she’ll need help with house training and adjusting to life inside a home. But her spirit is bright, her heart is open, and she’s ready to find a family who will truly see her and love her for the dog she’s becoming.

  • Malta - Adoption Pending - Squamish, B.C.

Born around December 2025, little Malta is one of three pups—Malta, Monty, and Huichi—rescued together near the Huichi River, just beside the Salty Dog Ranch. They were found in heartbreaking condition among many other dogs who had been struggling to survive. Though her journey began with hardship, Malta is now safe and beginning a new chapter filled with care and hope. Sadly, her rescue companion Huichi passed away on January 16, 2026 and Monty on February 6, 2026, but Malta continues to carry their spirit forward. We are just starting to get to know Malta’s personality, and each day she reveals a little more of her story. As she settles in, we’ll share updates about her quirks, charms, and the bright future she deserves.

  • Pina

Born around October 2024, Pina is one of our newest rescues and we’re just beginning to discover her personality. She’s still settling in, but already winning hearts with her gentle presence. We can’t wait to share more as we get to know this lovely girl!

  • Ron

Ron was discovered in a clothing store at the Alta Vela gas station, where a kind woman noticed this black‑and‑white pup in desperate need of help. Covered in mange, ticks, and fleas, Ron was rescued and given the chance to start fresh. Born around May 2025, Ron is a quiet, sweet boy who has already begun treatment for mange and is on the path to recovery. We’re still getting to know him, but his gentle nature is already shining through. Ron is not yet available for adoption — he needs time to heal and regain his strength. We’ll be sharing updates as he continues his treatment, and when he’s ready, we know he’ll make a wonderful companion for the right family.

  • Sally

Sally arrived at the rescue ranch with Harry, and together they chose safety over uncertainty. Sally brings her own quiet charm—she has the look of a dog who knows she’s finally where she belongs. She’s brand new to us, and we’re just beginning to learn her story. Already, we see a curious spirit and a gentle resilience as she explores ranch life. Each day she reveals a little more—whether it’s a cautious glance, a playful spark, or the calm presence of a dog learning she’s safe. Sally’s journey is only just beginning. Once she’s completed her protocols, she’ll be ready to find a family who will offer her patience, kindness, and the joy of a forever home.

  • Skye

Born around October 2022, Skye’s story began in a dusty yard behind Aceros Murillo, where she waited quietly for someone to notice her. On October 25th, our founders received a message: there was a dog who needed help. Without hesitation, they drove out to meet her — and Skye, tail wagging and eyes full of hope, was ready to be rescued. Though her spirit was bright, her body was battling a severe case of TVT (transmissible venereal tumor) cancer. She needed urgent care and isolation. So, with love and urgency, our team built her a quarantine pen at the ranch — a safe haven where she could begin her healing journey.

Skye is now receiving veterinary care and preparing for chemotherapy. Through it all, she’s remained a gentle soul who adores people and perks up for walks. Her resilience is matched only by her sweetness — she greets kindness with gratitude and walks with quiet joy. She’s not just surviving — she’s blooming. Skye is proof that love builds shelter, and hope builds futures.

  • Toby

Born around September 2021, Toby’s journey has been anything but easy — but this brave boy is a survivor in every sense of the word. Rescued by a kind soul who watches over a pack near Lago Real mall, Toby was found with wounds all over his body, battling ehrlichia and anemia, and showing signs of neurological damage. But guess what? He tested negative for distemper — he made it through. Toby is a distemper survivor, and as a result, he has a little “tick” in his movements — a sweet, wobbly reminder of everything he’s overcome. Despite everything, Toby is pure sweetness. He adores people, melts into pets and cuddles, and gets along beautifully with the other dogs in the yard. His gentle quirks only make him more endearing — a badge of survival and strength wrapped in a soft, snuggly package. Toby is currently living in an outdoor shelter and will need help learning the ropes of indoor life, but he’s eager to love and be loved. With a little patience and a lot of heart, Toby will be the most loyal, joyful companion you could ever hope for. If you’re looking for a dog who will remind you daily of the power of kindness and resilience, Toby is waiting — tail wagging, heart wide open.

  • Xander

Xander’s journey is one of courage and compassion. Born around November 2022, he was found in the La Mission area after being hit by a car. Bienstar was called to help, but when they said there was nothing they could do and left him behind, our founder couldn’t turn away. She went to him, and found Xander crying in pain, desperate for someone to care.vX-rays revealed fractures in his hips and calcification in his spine. Despite these challenges, our vet is hopeful that with time and treatment, Xander will walk again — and we’ve already seen encouraging improvements in just a short period.vThrough it all, Xander has shown a gentle spirit and remarkable resilience. He is now safe, undergoing protocols, and beginning his healing journey. While he is not yet ready for adoption, Xander would benefit greatly from a local foster home where he can rest, recover, and feel the love he has always deserved. Xander’s story is a reminder of the power of compassion. With patience, care, and kindness, his future can be filled with comfort, strength, and the joy of belonging
